TFRGroup Haulage Case Study

Testimonial

Introduction:

The Furniture Recycling Group (TFRG) is a leading company in the furniture recycling
industry. They specialize in collecting and processing used furniture from various
sources, including residential and commercial establishments. FRG’s commitment to
sustainability and environmental responsibility has earned them a reputation for
efficient and eco-friendly operations.

Challenge:

One of TFRG’s customers, a large furniture retailer, was facing significant delays in
loading and unloading furniture at their distribution centers. This resulted in
increased waiting time for trucks, leading to inefficiencies in their supply chain. TFRG
recognized the opportunity to improve operations and approached our company, a
provider of logistics solutions, to help address this challenge.

Solution:

Upon understanding TFRG’s requirements, we proposed a solution that involved
utilizing stand trailers to streamline the loading processes. Stand trailers are
preloaded with furniture and left at the customer’s distribution centers. When a truck
arrives, it simply swaps the loaded trailer with an empty one, eliminating the need for
time-consuming loading procedures on-site.

Implementation:

To implement the solution, we collaborated closely with TFRG and their customer’s
logistics team. The following steps were taken:

a. Assessing requirements: We analyzed the customer’s average daily furniture
turnover, trailer capacity, and loading processes to determine the number of stand
trailers required.

b. Trailer configuration: Based on the assessment, we configured three stand trailers
with the necessary loading infrastructure and security measures. Each trailer was
designed to accommodate a specific furniture category, ensuring efficient
organization and transportation.

c. Scheduling and logistics: A detailed schedule was established to ensure seamless
coordination between TFRG’s operations and the customer’s distribution centers. The
trailers were strategically positioned at the facilities to minimize transportation
distances.

d. Staff training: TFRG’s personnel, including drivers and warehouse staff, were
trained on the new process to ensure smooth trailer swaps and proper handling of
loaded and empty trailers.

Results:

The implementation of stand trailers yielded significant improvements in efficiency,
reducing the waiting time for loading by an impressive 85%. The key outcomes of this
solution were as follows:

a. Faster turnaround: With preloaded trailers available at the distribution centers,
trucks were able to swap trailers swiftly, eliminating the need for time-consuming
loading. This led to faster turnaround times for the customer, reducing delays and
improving overall supply chain efficiency.

b. Increased productivity: The reduced waiting time allowed TFRG’s trucks to make
more frequent trips between the customer’s distribution centers and TFRG’s
processing facilities. This increase in productivity enabled TFRG to handle a higher
volume of furniture while maintaining timely deliveries.

c. Enhanced customer satisfaction: The customer experienced improved service levels
due to reduced wait times and faster processing of furniture. This led to increased
customer satisfaction and strengthened the partnership between TFRG and their
customers.

Sustainability benefits:

Apart from the efficiency gains, the use of stand trailers also aligned with TFRG’s
commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices. By minimizing idling time
and optimizing logistics, the solution contributed to reduced fuel consumption and
lower carbon emissions, further enhancing TFRG’s environmental credentials.

Conclusion:

The implementation of stand trailers at the request of TFRG’s customer proved to be
a highly successful solution. By reducing waiting times for loading by 85%, the
efficiency of operations significantly improved. The strategic utilization of preloaded
trailers resulted in faster turnaround times, increased productivity, and enhanced
customer satisfaction. Moreover, the solution aligned with TFRG’s commitment to
sustainability, contributing to a greener supply chain.
